BRICK – Police reported that schools have been put on lockdown after shots were fired near the Brick Memorial High School earlier today.
According to Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly, the shooting did not occur inside the school but the victim did run into the school for help. The victim, reportedly a teenager, sustained a grazing wound and is at the hospital, accompanied by parents.
Brick schools remain on lockdown following a shots fired incident just a short distance from the Brick Memorial High School earlier today.
According to Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly, police responded to the high school at approximately 1:47 p.m. for reports of shots fired with one victim. School Resource Officer Timothy McCarthy was on scene already and officers in the area responded immediately.
Earlier reports stated that the shooting did not occur inside the school but the victim did run into the school for help. Further investigation revealed that the shooting occurred about ¼ mile down the road from Brick Memorial. The victim sustained a non-life threatening grazing wound and is currently at the hospital for treatment, accompanied by parents, said Sgt. Kelly.

“The schools are on lockdown while police work on releasing children and staff safely. Updates will be available as information comes,” said Sgt. Kelly.
