JACKSON – A 12-year-old Jackson boy riding a scooter was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a car.
Anthony Fontana was a student of Christa McAuliffee Middle School and was described in reports as a being a “brilliant and beautiful person”
According to police he was trying to cross Farmingdale Road which is a rural wooded area of the township, when Fontana’s scooter was hit around 6 p.m. by the driver of a 2016 Acura ILX that had been traveling east.
The boy was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was treated in the hospital’s trauma unit but was pronounced dead later that day.
Police are not yet releasing the name of the driver of the vehicle and the accident remains under investigation.
