JACKSON – The teenager charged in connection with a Sept. 14 bias incident in the township has been additionally charged after an investigation, police report.
The male teenage driver was initially charged with harassment and bias intimidation for running a couple of Jewish residents off the road. Following the investigation, he has also been charged with simple assault for an attempt by physical menace to put another in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.
On Sept. 14, a vehicle swerved at two Jewish residents that were standing near the curb in front of the residence, forcing them to jump onto the curb to safety.
“As the vehicle passed, the occupants of the vehicle were reported to have been yelling obscenities and insults in reference to their religion at the residents,” stated Jackson Police.

The vehicle passed the residence, turned around and came back to swerve at the two once more, continuing to yell obscenities and insults.
Provided with the vehicle’s license plate, police identified the driver of the vehicle as a teenage male, charging him with harassment and bias intimidation.
Juvenile complaints were issued charging a teenaged male passenger of the vehicle with bias intimidation and harassment. An adult male passenger of the vehicle was also charged with bias intimidation and harassment on a summons complaint.
The matter will be forwarded to the Family Court.
