OAKHURST – A 14-year-old male was charged with criminal mischief and robbery, and transported to Monmouth County’s youth detention center, after attempting to steal a bottle of liquor and breaking multiple wine bottles Sunday.
He was caught by Save Rite Liquors employees trying to walk out of the Route 35 store with the liquor in his backpack, authorities said. Employees confronted the boy, who took the bottle out of his backpack and placed it on the floor.
He then fled past them, breaking wine bottles on his way out of the store.
Police were able to identify the boy from store surveillance footage and arrested him later in the day.
Authorities did not release his name because he is a minor.
