ASBURY PARK – A police officer shot and killed a civilian on 7th Avenue in Asbury Park Tuesday night. The shooting is being investigated by the Attorney General’s Shooting Response Task Force.
A law enacted in January 2019 requires the attorney general’s office to investigate deaths that occur “during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody,” a Tuesday night press release from the NJOAG said.
No further information will be released while the investigation is ongoing.
