WHITING – A Whiting man was extricated and airlifted to a local hospital after suffering injuries in a two-car crash Friday morning.
The man, 91-year-old John Keenan, was trapped inside his 2015 Toyota Corolla after he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Lacey Road and Route 530. He was wearing his seatbelt. The car sustained heavy driver’s side damage.
His vehicle hit a 2016 Ford Hartnett Transit Service school bus out of Lakewood. The driver, Kim Barnes Porter, 64, and passenger Dennis Dandorph, 79, but sustained minor injuries and were taken to Community Medical Center for treatment. Both were wearing seat belts.
Keenan was transported by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for serious, life-threatening injuries. At press time, he was listed in critical condition.
Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Monoc Paramedics, Quality Medical Transport, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
