SHIP BOTTOM – A Newark man was arrested after making it all the way to Long Beach Island in a stolen vehicle, then causing an accident, police said.
Savio G. Garcia, 18, of Newark was slapped with numerous criminal charges as well as motor vehicle violations.
On June 9, Ship Bottom and Long Beach Township Police came together to stop and arrest Garcia, who was traveling along LBI in a vehicle stolen out of West Orange.
When police attempted a motor vehicle stop, Garcia eluded officers, causing an accident on Long Beach Blvd. Garcia fled the scene of the accident and ditched the stolen car behind a residence on East 7th Street, police said, fleeing on foot.
Once police located Garcia, he was arrested and transported to the Ocean County Jail.
