TOMS RIVER – Two Jersey Shore residents and one out-of-towner were hospitalized after their boat slammed into a navigational marker in the township, according to authorities.
New Jersey State Police Spokesman Alejandro Goez confirmed 58-year-old Mark Herega of Brick was operating the boat with three others onboard in the Barnegat Bay Friday night. The crash happened a little after 10:30 near the Thomas A. Mathis Bridge.
Herega and 77-year-old Dwight West, also of Brick, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River.
The other person injured was 54-year-old Madeline Delrio of Dunedin, Florida. She needed to be airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with more serious injuries but they are said to be non life threatening, according to police
A fourth passenger on the boat, 58-year-old Rene Delrio of Toms River was not injured and didn’t go to the hospital.
The incident is under investigation.
