HOWELL – On April 17, Howell Township Schools held its annual Howell Township Student Board of Education Day where students get a taste of what it’s like to run the district.
Student BOE Day began three years ago, modeled after the township’s Student Government Day where students conduct a township meeting as Howell’s mayor and council. Student BOE Day takes on the same concept, replacing the district’s school board members with student representatives who act as superintendent, school board president and board members.
The day begins at the Board of Education administration building where the kids get to take part in important committee meetings as board members. The day then culminates at the Board of Education meeting held at Middle School North in the evening.
During the meeting, the 5th grade student representatives discussed the topics of their committee meetings from earlier in the day, talked about autism awareness, and even discussed stress and anxiety solutions for students, according to the district.
The students were presented with certificates by the Board of Education for their remarkable efforts.
