HOWELL – An 11 month old baby remains hospitalized following a serious accident on Route 34 in the township.
Howell Township Police Detective Sergeant John Lopez confirmed details of the late Thursday morning crash to Jersey Shore Online.
Police said 18-year-old Jordan Johnson of Neptune was traveling south on Route 34 near the Route 33/34 interchange on the border of Howell and Colts Neck. Her Cadillac SRX veered off into oncoming traffic, striking a Nissan Rogue – head on.
41-year-old Eliza Colon of Sayreville was in the Rogue along with an 11-month-old baby boy and an 11-year-old girl.
According to Detective Sergeant Lopez, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Officer Patrick Luke, who was off duty, and two off duty New Jersey State Troopers, Detective Condron and Trooper Meehan stopped to render aid and immediately began CPR on the baby.
The infant was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he remains in ICU. The 11-year-old girl sustained a minor injury to her right arm.
The crash remains under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis and Response Team (SCART).
