SOUTH TOMS RIVER – An accident on Atlantic City Boulevard in South Toms River leaves a pedestrian in critical condition.
Ocean County Scanner News was the first to report the Saturday night incident.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Officer confirms the South Toms River Police Department was first to respond to the scene near a shopping center at 308 Atlantic City Boulevard.
When police arrived, they found 26-year-old Danielle Frederick of Toms River unresponsive and face-up in the southbound lane. CPR was being performed by a nurse and off-duty EMT.
Paramedics were able to stabilize Frederick for transport and she was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
According to Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Al Della Fave, Frederick was struck by a 2008 Kia Optima driven by 28-year-old Alyse Gombas of Toms River. Gombas also struck Frederick’s boyfriend, 27-year-old Vincent Mangione of Jackson.
Mangione suffered minor injuries and was treated at Community Medical Center in Toms River.
Della Fave said “Gombas is an on-duty registered nurse and immediately exited her vehicle to render aid to Frederick who was unresponsive. She continued treatment until arrival of police and paramedics.”
A full investigation is underway by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Gombas did not show any signs of impairment and a blood sample was not obtained.
