LITTLE EGG HARBOR — A grand jury has indicted a Little Egg Harbor man for murder and other charges.

Kendrick Coley, 26, was indicted Aug. 29 for murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Coley is accused of killing Richard Pone, 28, also of Little Egg Harbor, on May 16, 2018, at a Maplewood Drive residence.

The Little Egg Harbor Police Department received a phone call that evening that a man within the residence had a knife, and that another male had been stabbed. Police found Coley in the home’s garage. They were directed by a female in the home to a second-floor bedroom, where Pone was unresponsive with a stab wound to his upper left chest. He was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m.

The Medical Examiner found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest and the manner of death a homicide.

Authorities say Coley and Pone had a fight. Coley retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed Pone in the upstairs bedroom. Allegedly, the altercation resulted from Pone confronting Coley about an earlier assault against a female at the residence.
