BERKELEY – Central Regional High School has added Italian as a third option for World Language students, in addition to Spanish and French.
“Italian is a romance language spoken by over 60 million people around the world,” said Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides. “Speaking Italian gives you access to the world with native speakers from Rome to Milan to Sicily to San Marino.”
Although Italian has different grammar and sentence structure than English, both languages have Latin roots and share thousands of cognates – words that sound the same and have the same meanings. It is easy to learn for native English speakers, according to the superintendent.
