TOMS RIVER – It was near-apocalyptic in Toms River for a couple hours, as rains pounded the region and flooded many areas in town.
At the end of Tuesday night, Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little shared storm stats from his department.
From 4-6:45 p.m. July 17, there were 152 calls for service:
74 disabled motor vehicles
Four burglar alarms
15 fire calls, including four structure fire investigations
Nine pole/wire calls
Two welfare checks
Nine road hazards
18 flooding calls (“I told dispatch to stop taking those since the water will rescind,” Little said.)
Six motor vehicle crashes
Three first aid calls
Seven trees down
Four traffic light malfunctions
Little added that the Silverton Fire Company handled a “significant amount of calls” in their area as well.
There were three road closures, 36 tow trucks dispatched, and five police cars flooded.
