BRICK – A Northrup Drive resident has been charged in the death of his dog.
Police responded to the residence before 6 p.m. July 1, on reports that a sick or injured animal was at the residence.
Police saw neighbors assisting a dog that had been left out on the second-floor fire escape for several hours in the extreme heat. The dog, appearing to be a Cane Corso breed, was unconscious and in severe distress.
Police and neighbors attempted to cool the dog with water before lowering it in its cage to the ground and wrapping it in a wet towel. The dog was taken to Jersey Shore Veterinary Hospital in Lakewood, where it died Tuesday morning.
The dog’s owner, identified as Jonathan Correa, was charged with failing to provide necessary care to an animal/living creature, exposing an animal to adverse weather conditions, and failing to provide a shelter of the proper size and failing to obtain a dog license. He was processed at headquarters and released on a summons pending a court appearance.
