FREEHOLD – An Asbury Park man was arrested and charged with attempted murder, among other charges, after a shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon in the same town, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Trey Lentz, 21, of Asbury Park, is charged with first degree Attempted Murder, after shooting a 24-year old man, also from Asbury Park. Lentz is also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Obstruction.
At approximately 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, Neptune Township Police and Asbury Park Police responded to the area of 48 Ridge Avenue in Asbury Park for shots fired. Officers arrived and learned that the victim, a 24-year old man, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was already in a car that was being driven to the hospital by his friends. Officers then escorted the car to the hospital and ensured that the victim received medical attention. The victim received treatment for his injuries at a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.
An investigation was immediately launched by the Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Shortly thereafter, officers from the Asbury Park Police Department and Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Lentz in the area of 48 Ridge Avenue in Asbury Park after he had climbed out of a window and was attempting to flee.
Lentz remains detained in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. He is scheduled today to be formally served with the charges against him at his First Appearance in Freehold.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
