OCEAN COUNTY – Surgery isn’t for everyone. That’s why we focus on bringing non-surgical pain relief options within reach of those suffering from chronic pain.
If prior treatments have failed you, and you are still experiencing pain in your back or limbs, you may be a candidate for a spinal cord stimulator.
A spinal cord stimulator is an implantable system that delivers electrical impulses to nerves in the spinal cord. These impulses are able to mask pain signals before they reach the brain. The device is proven to provide significant long term pain relief and reduce or eliminate the need for pain medications. As an intervention for chronic back pain and/or leg pain, spinal cord stimulation can be an effective alternative or adjunct treatment to other therapies that have failed to manage pain on their own.
Spinal cord stimulation is proven to provide effective pain relief in 50-70% of cases. Pain signals are inhibited without use of opiates or other controlled substances.
Before deciding on the procedure, patients are offered a “trial” period where the device is worn on the body for a short period of time to determine its effectiveness. If the device proves to provide optimal pain relief, it is implanted into the body with a very small incision. There is no hospital stay – as the procedure is performed in an out-patient surgical setting.
