TOMS RIVER – Police continue to investigate a house fire that occurred on the morning of Jan. 22.
Police, fire and medical units all responded to the scene after an alert of smoke at a home at 51 Oak Glen Road. Once on the scene, officials noticed that the smoke was billowing out of the home from the garage area and the roof line. The resident fled the home when she saw the smoke coming from upstairs and was not injured in the incident.
Toms River Fire Departments #1, #2, East Dover, Silverton, and Pleasant Plains helped to control the situation and extinguish the fire before it could destroy the main area of the home.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, although officials believe it to have started in the garage and remain relatively contained.
The investigation is being conducted by The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention along with the Toms River Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau.
