Second Motorcycle-Car Crash In Two Days

MANCHESTER – One day after a car slammed into a motorcycle near a Wawa on Route 539, another car collided with a motorcycle and caused two people to be airlifted to the hospital.

On July 17, Manchester Police responded to the intersection of Routes 70 and 571 in the Ridgeway section of town and saw a Suzuki GSXR motorcycle on its side, pinned under a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. A 2015 Nissan Sentra was also stopped in the intersection with front end damage. Two injured people were lying in the roadway.

An investigation revealed that the Nissan Sentra was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Route 70 eastbound when it collided with the motorcycle, which was traveling westbound on Route 571. Both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle were ejected from the vehicle and thrown onto the roadway. The motorcycle overturned and collided with the Hyundai Elantra, which is how it became wedged underneath it.

The motorcycle was being driven by 23-year-old Brandon Richardson of Burlington, who suffered injuries to his arms and legs, and also had a passenger, 37-year-old Jazzelle Queen-Richardson of Bordentown, who also suffered serious injuries to her head, neck and back. They were both transported by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The Nissan driver, 29-year-old Alexander Andrade of Lakewood, and the Hyundai driver, 44-year-old Rebecca Calicchio of Whiting, were uninjured in the accident.

A day earlier – on Sunday, July 16, one person was taken by medevac to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and another by ambulance to Community Medical Center after an 85-year-old man driving a Hyundai Sonata slammed into a motorcycle and injured its driver and passenger.

Portions of the highways were closed for several hours on July 17 during the investigation and clean up. Richardson and Queen-Richardson were listed in serious but stable condition as of the night of the accident.

Members of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, detectives from the Ocean County Sherriff’s Department’s Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office assisted at the scene, as well as EMTs from Quality Medical Transport and paramedics from MONOC. Patrolman Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash.
